Ecstasy Use among High Risk Populations
Ecstasy use has been rising steadily in recent years among people who use drugs recreationally in Vancouver (past month use went from about 50% in 2008 to almost 75% in 2011), according to data from the High Risk Populations Study. Use among people who use drugs recreationally in Victoria has been up and down but overall the trend is toward increased use. Street involved youth in both cities also use ecstasy much more than young people in school. In 2008 about 15% of 18 year old students had ever tried ecstasy whereas, in the same year, over 90% of street involved youth had used it at least once and over 40% had used it in the past month. Rates of use by street involved youth has remained relatively stable.
